Fine, thin hair can be lifted to bold new heights with a few simple steps. Here are the basics to build volume and structure into your hair.
Shampooing
- You don’t have to rough up your fine hair to get healthy volume. Shampoo with a light touch to avoid breaking hair in the process.
- Be sure to shampoo daily with formulas designed to leave hair full and strong against damage, like Nioxin Cleanser Shampoo.
Conditioning
- Don’t let conditioners scare you away because you think they’ll weigh your hair down. If you use the right conditioner, the result can be quite the opposite. Conditioner helps preserve hair’s health and, with the right formula, can actually help give you manageable volume.
- Try Nioxin Scalp Therapy Conditioner. It helps fragile hair to be more resistant to damage, and leaves it looking thick and full.
- For volume, condition only the middle and ends of your hair where it's most susceptible to damage
Styling
- Wash hair with Nioxin Cleanser Shampoo and follow with Scalp Therapy Conditioner. These are great body builders that will bring out your hair’s natural volume for big style.
- Apply Your favorite Nioxin Volumizing Reflectives for fine hair styling product or Nioxin Smoothing Reflectives Styling for Medium to Coarse Hair to hair, beginning at the roots and working through to the tips. The hair closest to the scalp is the most important place to build volume.
- Focusing first at the roots and moving outward, dry hair using a vented brush or your fingers to keep hair moving and lifted away from the scalp, particularly the crown. For maximum lift and volume, hold head upside-down while drying.
- Section off dry hair with clips and spritz on a small amount of
Nioxin Root Lifter. Using a round brush, pull each section of hair straight and roll it toward your chin, heating with a blow dryer for 15 seconds.
- Use a curling iron or large rollers to create additional volume and a more polished look. Let curls cool and comb through with fingers.
- Finish with a light mist of Nioxin NioSpray Hairspray sprayed all over, 8 to 10 inches from your head to set the style.
Maintenance
- Bangs can disguise thin hair. Experiment with longer, side-swept bangs or short bangs. Apply Nioxin Thickening Spray to help keep bangs in place.
- It may sound old-fashioned, but for full, voluminous hair, nothing beats a set of hot rollers. Velveteen heated rollers are ideal for long-lasting ringlets and Velcro rollers are great for adding body and lift. Use 2-inch rollers to achieve soft, loose waves with lots of body
